Joining the The Society of Saint Joseph requires two steps:
Step 1: Arrange for a planned or deferred gift to a local parish, a catholic elementary school, the Diocese of San Jose, or any ministry of the Diocese (endowed or non-endowed)
Step 2: Let us know of your plans by submitting the Confidential Legacy Intention Form. Download the form from the Foundation’s website or ask your parish to print one.
[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”What types of gifts qualify?”]
Legacy gifts take many forms. Below are some of the most common gifts that people choose.
- Bequests through wills or living trusts
- Naming as beneficiary of retirement plans
- Naming as beneficiary of insurance policies
- Naming as beneficiary of financial accounts
Please give us a call at 408.995.5219 to discuss other types of gifts that might interest you.
[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Can I direct my legacy gift to a specific fund?”]
As a donor, you can choose how you would like the beneficiary to receive your legacy gift by designating it either as endowed or non-endowed.
NON-ENDOWED GIFT – You may choose to allow those who will lead our Church in future years to decide how best to use your gift taking in consideration the needs in their time. After your lifetime, one hundred percent of your gift will be transferred directly to the beneficiary.
ENDOWED GIFT – You may choose to direct your gift to an endowment fund which permanently supports the parish, Catholic organization or area of ministry that is important to you. After your lifetime, one hundred percent of your gift will be transferred to The Catholic Community Foundation of Santa Clara County who will prudently invest the principal of the fund and distribute between 3-5% of earnings annually to the beneficiary that you selected, in perpetuity.
Whether you choose to make a non-endowed gift, an endowed gift or a combination of both, we can provide you with easy bequest language that your advisor can use when drafting your will or trust.
[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Do I need to make a large gift to be a member of the society?”]
No. Anyone who names our local Church as a beneficiary of any size gift or any percentage of their estate assets is welcome to join the society. We celebrate and recognize not the amount given but the extraordinary act of faith and stewardship.
[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”What can I expect as a member?”]
As a sign of gratitude for the impact you will have in our local Catholic community beyond your lifetime, you will receive the following:
- A welcome letter from Most Rev. Bishop Patrick J. McGrath
- Invitation to the Bishop’s annual “Society of St. Joseph Mass & Reception”
- A society lapel pin to wear at special events
- Special intentions for the members of the society
- Special inaugural certificate for those joining the society during the first year (ending June 2019)
[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Are there any ongoing dues or expectations to attend events?”]
No. There are no dues, and the only requirement for membership is that you let us know when you have made a planned gift to benefit the Church. While we delight in our members coming together to share in community and inspire others, they are always kindly invited but never required to participate in any events.
[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Can I be an anonymous member of the society?”]
Yes. If you choose to remain anonymous, you will have a chance to let us know when completing the Legacy Intention Form and we will honor your wishes; however, your participation in the Society can be an inspirational experience and may encourage others to also follow the example of Saint Joseph as protector of our Church.
